Pay attention to any lights or beeps. Error codes (often shown via blinking LEDs or a small display) can narrow down the cause—consult the manual for the specific code meaning.

Eliminate other cycle blockers

A dishwasher may also fail to start if it’s detecting a problem during self-check. Check that the water supply valve under the sink is fully open. If your home has hard water or supply restrictions, the inlet may not be getting enough flow, leading to a stalled start.

Finally, make sure the unit isn’t overloaded or physically blocked (for example, racks binding the door as it closes). While this is less common, a mechanical obstruction can prevent proper latch engagement.

If you complete the checks above and the dishwasher still won’t start, the next likely causes include a defective door latch switch, a failed start button, a wiring issue, or a faulty control board.
